What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Be yourself, however bonkers you are.

What do you wish you had known when you started teaching?

That my personality is my greatest asset and don’t be afraid to go off the lesson plan.

Tell us one thing you would change about teaching, and why.

The belief of and insistence on written feedback. Oh, and the lack of understanding of how increased workload and stress seriously damage mental health.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?

Working with children and making a lasting effect on their lives.

What’s the craziest or most outstanding thing that ever happened in your classroom?

In my NQT year, I was teaching a Biology lesson to a year 10 class when one of them spotted a couple being amorous on the balcony of the flats across the road. No progress was made in that lesson, however, I think some of them learnt something.
