You must look after yourself if you want to do your best for the children in your care.
What do you wish you had known when you started teaching?
Putting all your time into school work is not the be all and end all. You must strike a work-life balance. It will be visible in your teaching if you are burnt out.
Tell us one thing you would change about teaching, and why.
Teachers should be trusted to do a good job and given a little more freedom to be creative in the classroom. The workload also needs to be reduced to ensure teachers aren’t forced to leave a career they love.
What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
The best thing is seeing that you have made a difference. It is wonderful when you just see something click with a child. I always hope to nurture a love of learning in my pupils.
What’s the craziest or most outstanding thing that ever happened in your classroom?
On a particularly warm summer’s day, the classroom door to the playground was open for a bit of fresh air and in hopped a frog!
